      Russ Voelker

As a graduate in illustration from Utah State University, Russ worked primarily in designer’s gouache in his earlier years. Through time, he has come to prefer the rich colors that oils bring to his work. But Russ still works in silkscreen, watercolors and acrylics on occasions and this diversity of medium is noticeable in the art presented to you on this site.

"Having spent 16 years in Utah, I’ve come to love the West and all of its natural beauty. Most of my work is from my mind’s eye of images from fond memories of those years living in the intermountain West. I create as I work the brush. Like the hiker that always needs to see what’s around the next bend, I create my scenes as I apply the paint. Never sure at the beginning just what I will have at the end. I don’t want to plan out my paintings. I think it takes the excitement out of the process. Instead, I create surprises for myself and create a new challenge with each fresh canvas. I truly enjoy painting. And I hope you enjoy the view!"
